This summer, Be The Love has been blanketing the DC Metro area with Love for its neighbors!  We started our Summer of Service at The Carpenter’s Shelter in Alexandria, Virginia.  The Carpenter’s Shelter is the largest homeless shelter in the northern Virginia area, and provides comprehensive care to its residents to aid them in their transition back to independent living.  On June 27, 2013, 10 volunteers banded together to make an awesome dinner for the 77 residents of the Shelter, and great times were had by all!

If you want to join in the fun, we’ve got some great events lined up for the rest of the summer.  Below is where we plan to serve for the rest of the summer:

July 20, 2013 – Bowling with the Porch!

On July 20, we’re going bowling with The Porch!  The Porch is a multi-church urban ministry seeking to show urban youth God’s love and to connect them with Christ.  They do this through awesome weekly meetings and occasional fun events.  We’ll be taking some of the kids to Lucky Strike to show them a good time in the middle of this apparent never ending string of heat and rain.  If you’re interested in serving at The Porch this fall and want to get an opportunity to meet other kids and leaders from The Porch, click here to sign up and bowl with us!

July 27, 2013 – Poe Middle School Beautification Day

On July 27, Be The Love is headed to Poe Middle School for a fun service day! The Principal of the school is hoping to build an awesome courtyard with pathways, flowers, trimmed hedges –  you name it, she wants it!  We need as many volunteers who don’t mind getting their hands a little dirty to come out and help make this vision a reality. If you’re an experienced yard worker or have never planted a seed in your life, there’s a place for you!  Click here for more details on how you can join us in Being the Love to Poe Middle School!

August 17, 2013 – Capital Hill Pregnancy Center Service Day

On August 17, we’ll be wrapping up our Summer of Service at the Capital Hill Pregnancy Center!  CHPC counsels families and singles facing crisis pregnancies in the DC Metro area.  They also do parenting classes, child birth classes, and even have a team that goes into DC public Schools to mentor young girls. We’ll be spending a Saturday morning there to help clean and sort donated items, and to provide assistance anywhere else they need.  Click here to come on by and help us serve this awesome ministry!
