Be the Love Campaign is a Community Development Corporation of Capital City Church, a dynamic, multi-cultural congregation in the Washington, DC area committed to seeing real life change, and serves as the social justice and outreach arm of the Church.

Be the Love Campaign is all about empowering people to be the change in their world. We recognize that empathy is not enough to solve the problems that we face. We believe that while the statistics of suffering in our world today are overwhelming, we, together are not powerless. We have something in our hand and when we band together we can have a tremendous impact for good. From global opportunities to local community outreach, we are intentional about communicating value, strength and most of all love.

If you’ve been looking for an easy way to get connected and serve the community, look no further! Here is a list of current local outreach projects we have going on at Capital City Church Kingstowne. Whether you’re collecting non-perishable food items, serving meals at a homeless shelter, or delivering Easter baskets to kids that need a smile, it’s our mission to see the local community and those in it thrive.

FOCUS AREA: Homelessness
TEAM LEADER: Jessica Brown,
VISION:  Transforming lives through shelter, connection and care.

Service Opportunity: Conversation & Prayer

When: Wednesdays, 1:30-4:00 pm & Thursdays, 1:30-7:00 pm
Where: Rising Hope Mission Church, Alexandria, VA
Task: Volunteers are needed to listen to and offer prayer, encouragement and speak life into those who are going through difficult times . This is an invaluable service it and brings hope to those who may otherwise not have any.
Commitment Requirement: Flexible

Service Opportunity: Empowerment Assistant
When: Wednesdays, 1:30-4:00 pm & Thursdays, 1:30-7:00 pm
Where: Rising Hope Mission Church, Alexandria, VA
Task: As an empowerment volunteer, you provide help to those who need a little guidance with tasks (filling out applications, offer advice, etc.) Here you can also offer help with resume services, job seeking skills and housing resources. The work is as varied as the range of needs that are presented.
Commitment Requirement: Flexible

Service Opportunity: Clothing Closet Assistant
When: Wednesdays & Thursdays, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm (Peak time is Wednesday 1:30-3:30)
Where: Rising Hope Mission Church, Alexandria, VA
Task: (Working with clients) Volunteer shop floor assistants are needed to fold and organize clothing. Additional tasks include greeting constituents, signing them in and receiving/sorting donated household goods. This is a great opportunity to chat with and encourage clients.
Commitment Requirement: Flexible

When: Tuesdays & Fridays, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
Task: (Behind the scene) Organize/sort donations received for the clothing closet.
Commitment Requirement: Flexible

Service Opportunity: Independent Living Skills Presenter
When: Schedule Pending, but will have flexibility
Where: Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (PRS) Inc., Alexandria, VA
Task:  Knowledgeable, skills-based professionals volunteer to present an independent living skills topic at the Recovery Academy Day Program. Clients include individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, mild intellectual disabilities, as well as anyone facing crisis.
Commitment Requirement: One time class or teaching series

FOCUS AREA: Childhood Hunger
TEAM LEADER: Valerie Villegas and Mark Percosky,
VISION: Partnering to fight hunger in our community.

Service Opportunity #1: Blessings in a Backpack (Groveton Elementary School)
When: Food collection (Sundays, ongoing); Food packing (Third Sunday of each month)
Where: Capital City Church KT
Tasks: Collect and pack food to be delivered to school children in Blessings in a Backpack program.
Commitment Required: One hour/bi-weekly


FOCUS AREA:  Women and Children in Crisis
VISION: To guide, mentor, and help care for disenfranchised women and girls in the community.

FOCUS AREA:  Prison and Families of Incarcerated Ministry
TEAM LEADER: Holly Neyland,
VISION: To provide ministry and support to inmates and children with incarcerated parents, meanwhile connecting them with God.

Service Opportunity #1: Angel Tree Camping
When: Summer
Where: TBA
Tasks: Sponsor an Angel Tree child (whose parent/s are incarcerated) by helping their caregivers sign them up for an approved Christian summer camp; supply campers with basic camp necessities; organize a summer camp gift drive. 
 Commitment Required: Varies


FOCUS AREA:  Youth Mentoring

TEAM LEADER: Autumn Swain,
VISION: Raising the next generation of community leaders.

Service Opportunity: Youth tutoring and/or mentoring

When: weekday afternoon or evenings and some weekend opportunities

Where: Boys and Girls Club (7800 Belford Drive, Alexandria, VA 22306)

Task: Volunteers are needed to interact and support the youth during their after school or weekend programming. This may include helping with homework, working with the youth during their leadership development programming. There is specific programming for working with boys (Passport to Manhood) and working with girls (Smart Girls).

Commitment Requirement: weekly or bi-weekly preferred, but once a month is fine.

Anti Trafficking

Modern Day Slavery is the second largest criminal industry in the world. Today it is estimated that over 12 million people worldwide are trafficked (Source: United Nations). These statistics seem overwhelming but each number represents a life. Each life has a story. Every life deserves freedom.

Capital City Church’s Be the Love Campaign is is committed to partnering with the A21 Campaign to right the injustice of slavery. We are joining with them to support their mission to raise awareness, take legal action where appropriate, and offer rehabilitation services to rescued victims of human trafficking in order to fight this injustice from a comprehensive approach. Through monthly support and annual initiatives, Be The Love is a significant advocate for the cause of A21. For more information about the A21 Campaign visit their website at


24,000 children die each day from preventable causes (Source: UNICEF). Many of those children die simply because they do not have adequate food to make it through the day. Capital City Church’s Be the Love Campaign is supporting Joint Aid Management (JAM) in their goal of feeding 1 million African children each day. JAM is an African founded, registered non-profit humanitarian relief and development organization, with 26 years experience in sustainable development. JAM’s programs focus on nutritional feeding, school feeding, assistance to orphans and vulnerable children, the provision of water and sanitation, as well as skills development, community training on agricultural development, income generation projects and HIV/AIDS programming.
